JEE books, mapped: the three shelves every aspirant fills

Walk into any bookshop in India and you can fill two of the three shelves a JEE aspirant needs. The third shelf is the problem — and the reason this page exists.

• Shelf one: NCERT. The starting texts for class 11 and 12. Available in every shop, cheap, never scarce. Nothing to solve here.
• Shelf two: institute modules. The printed books coaching institutes issue to their own enrolled batches — Allen, Motion, Unacademy and the rest run their full courses out of these. Bookshops do not stock them. You get them by enrolling, or you get them second-hand.
• Shelf three: practice and PYQ books. Publisher question banks and previous-year papers. Any shop, any online store, no shortage.

If you are starting class 11, that is the whole landscape. Shelves one and three take one afternoon to buy. Shelf two is the one that needs a plan — and it is the only shelf we deal in.

Institute modules are printed for enrolled students, issued at the start of a session, and never stocked by retailers. That leaves exactly two routes to a set: join a batch, or buy one from a student who has finished with it. We run the second route.

Every listing on KotaBook is one pre-owned physical set. Sets are graded A (excellent for a used set), B (notes inside) or C (fair, complete). Used sets can carry pen or highlighter marks from the previous owner; the photos show whatever is there.

Numbers vary set to set, so treat half-price as a rough rule, not a promise — the listing has the exact figure.
